Design & Fabrication of RF Passive Modules

It is difficult to import high frequency components and modules due to embargos on Pakistan. This impedes the research and development work done in the country. Therefore, there is a need to design and develop high frequency components and modules indigenously. The aim of this project is the design and development of RF passive modules (power splitters/combiners, filters and baluns) on low cost Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The performance of these designed modules will be comparable to commercially available products within the specified frequency range which will enable us to realize the designs with inexpensive components and materials. The schematic and layout will be designed using software ADS, SONNET and AWR’s Microwave Office. Designs will be sent to China for low cost PCB fabrication. The design is challenging because at GHz range, parasitic and distributed components effects are no longer negligible. Spectrum analyzer and vector network analyzer will be used for testing the RF modules at Electronics Design Centre (EDC) labs at NED University. Researchers and students at EDC and their collaborators will use these modules for RF circuits testing. Later, they may also be provided to interested organizations in the country.
