RF Lab

Radio Frequency (RF) lab is still under development. It will be equipped with advanced equipments for measurement of RF and Microwave circuits.

Equipments:

Currently this lab has following equipments
  • Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)

  • VNA is widely used for RF and microwave design applications. In laboratory, high-end class of Rohde & Schwarz network analyzer (R&S®ZVB8) is available. A wide range VNA (300kHz to 8GHz) is used to ensure that the design is optimized for best performance. It is capable of balanced measurements (mixed-mode S-parameters) and has two internal sources which can be utilized in, for example, mixer measurements from a single unit ( to provide RF and LO signals).

  • Noise Source

Noise Com's NC346 Series is designed for precision noise figure measurement applications. The VSWR has been improved, reducing multiple reflections of the test signals and significantly increasing the measurement accuracy of most noise figure set-ups. Key features include frequency range of 10 MHz to 18 GHz, output ENR of 5 to 7 dB and VSWR of 1.25:1 for 5 to 18 GHz range.

  • Vector Signal Generator (VSG)

We have two R&S®SMBV100A VSGs in our lab. They offer excellent RF performance along with very high output level and short setting times. At the same time, they are equipped with an internal baseband generator to allow generation of a number of digital standards (e.g. LTE, LTE-Advanced, IEEE 802.11ac, GNSS). The wide frequency range covers all of the important bands for digital modulation with built-in phase coherence. First VSG has a frequency range of 9kHz to 6GHz while second one can generate frequencies from 9kHz to 3.2GHz.

  • Vector Signal Analyzer (VSA)

The R&SFSV7 is an exceptionally fast and versatile signal and spectrum analyzer for performance oriented, cost-conscious users working in the development, production, installation and servicing of RF systems. Some key facts include frequency range up to 7 GHz, 40 MHz signal analysis bandwidth, 0.4 dB level measurement uncertainty up to 7 GHz, measurement applications for GSM/EDGE (including EDGE Evolution), WCDMA/HSPA+, LTE, WiMAX, WLAN, CDMA2000, 1xEV-DO etc, vector signal analysis, and displayed average noise level (DANL) in 1 Hz bandwidth: -155 dBm at 1 GHz.

  • RF Probe Head

In laboratory there are two RF arm and tilting mechanism with Micropositioner (TP 100) of EVERBEING company. GSG, GSSG probe head of 40GHz frequency with BeCu tip and RF probe calibration kit are also available.

  • Signal Generators (TGA1240 and TGR2050)

Four signal generators are available from Thurbly Thandar Instruments (TTi) with wide amplitude range, low noise and inherently good frequency stability. TGR2050, 2GHz synthesized RF signal generator, has wide frequency range (150kHz to 2GHz) with setting resolution of 10Hz. Where as, TGA1240, 40MHz arbitrary waveform generator, has 1, 2 or 4 independent arbitrary channels. TGA1240 has sampling frequency up to 40MHz, 12 bit vertical resolution and includes GPIB and RS232 interfaces.

  • Spectrum Analyzer

To examine the spectral composition of RF waveforms, Agilent's E4408B-BAS ESA-L Basic Spectrum Analyzer is available in RF lab. Spectrum analyzer has a wide frequency range (9 kHz to 26.5 GHz) with 1.1 dB overall amplitude accuracy, 7.5 dBm TOI (Third order intercept) and high resolution color display. Measurement applications include narrow resolution bandwidth, 8590 series code compatibility, or 50 ohm tracking generator.
